ISPOR Publishes Good Research Practices for Conjoint Analysis
posted 2011.7.16

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. - The International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) has published the scientific report "Conjoint Analysis Applications in Health - a Checklist: A Report of the ISPOR Good Research Practices for Conjoint Analysis Task Force".

Conjoint analysis and other methods to measure patient and other stakeholder preferences are increasingly being used in outcomes research, and even more broadly in health care and medicine, as a means to identify and evaluate the relative importance of different aspects of health outcomes and health-care services. As the number of researchers using conjoint analysis in health care has grown, so has the variability in the quality of conjoint analysis studies. To overcome this variability, a task force from the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) developed a checklist for good research practices. A. Brett Hauber PhD, F. Reed Johnson PhD, and Josephine Mauskopf PhD from RTI Health Solutions served as members of the task force and as authors of the task force report.

"As evidenced by the increasing number of conjoint analysis studies in the published literature, eliciting stakeholder preferences for health outcomes and other treatment features has become an important area of research for many health economists and outcomes researchers," said Dr. Hauber. "Applications of conjoint analysis methods in health and healthcare are evolving at a rapid pace and the checklist provides a timely framework implementing and evaluating good research practices in conjoint analysis."
