TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Dr. Kenneth J. Rothman, premier research
epidemiologist and author of two seminal textbooks on epidemiology, joined RTI Health Solutions (RTI-HS) on July 1, 2005, as vice president
of Epidemiology Research.
Rothman’s addition strengthens RTI-HS’ ongoing initiatives
in pharmacoepidemiology and therapeutic risk management. In his new role,
Rothman will provide leadership in the application of advanced methods
in nonexperimental research to address a variety of client issues, particularly
in the area of drug safety and risk assessment.
"
We are extremely pleased to have Ken join our growing organization,” said
Dr. Allen Mangel, vice president of RTI Health Solutions “He will
provide us with an enhanced capability to serve our clients throughout
the pharmaceutical industry, putting us at the forefront of epidemiologic
methodology. Our strong team of epidemiology researchers is enthusiastic
about the opportunity to work with Ken. The combination of Dr. Rothman
and Dr. Elizabeth Andrews, our vice president of Risk Management, will
create an incredibly sophisticated risk management team.”
Rothman was co-founder of Epidemiology Resources, Inc., the precursor
of the epidemiology group at Ingenix. He was the founding editor of Epidemiology
and has authored more than 200 scholarly publications, including the
widely-used textbooks "Modern Epidemiology" and “Epidemiology – An
Introduction.”
Dr. Rothman also holds an appointment as Professor of Epidemiology and
Professor of Medicine at Boston University. He also served as President
of the Society for Epidemiologic Research and is an Honorary Fellow of
the American College of Epidemiology. He received the Will Solimene Award
for Excellence from the American Medical Writers Association and the
Abraham Lilienfeld Teaching Award from the American Public Health Association.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the International Society
of Pharmacoepidemiology (ISPE). In addition to his contributions to epidemiology
methods and teaching, his research has covered multiple therapeutic areas,
such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, neurologic disease, birth defects,
environmental exposures and drug epidemiology.
“I am delighted at the opportunity to join the team of distinguished
scientists at RTI Health Solutions and contribute to their outstanding
reputation for research and consulting in epidemiology and risk management,” Rothman
said.
