We understand both the opportunities and limitations associated with using health care databases for pharmacoepidemiology research. We help our clients determine if it is feasible and effective to use databases to answer their epidemiology and drug safety questions. We routinely conduct database research to gain insight on the following topics:
The relative safety profile of medications, vaccines, and other treatments
Disease prevalence and public health impact
Background event rates
Patient characteristics
Treatment patterns and drug utilization
Medication adherence and persistence
Comparative effectiveness and value of alternative treatments
Coodinating Center for Studies using Multiple Databases
Increasingly, safety studies require a sample size exceeding that available from a single database. We have project experience serving as a coordinating center for studies that partner with multiple databases. In a current study, we are coordinating research across 12 databases using a data model based on the US Sentinel Network project.
Select and Access the Best Source of Data
We can help you identify and access the database(s) most appropriate for each study. Our status as a not-for-profit independent research company allows us to conduct research in a wide range of data sources and to collaborate with other organizations. Our project experience includes working with the following databases:
Danish Health databases
Drug Abuse Warning Network (DAWN)
Friuli Venezia Giulia databases (Italy)
General Practice Research Database (GPRD) (UK)
Henry Ford Health Care System
Health Survey of England (HSE)
